Through education SEXplained…® will promote safer sexual and reproductive health and encourage superior sexual protection, for all.

Philosophy

SEXplained…® will, at all times:

* through education about contraception and family planning, promote lifelong learning to avoid unplanned pregnancy and contraction of sexually transmitted infections. In particular, the prevention of HIV and Hepatitis, to people of any age, race, ability, religion or sexual orientation, without prejudice.
* train and update trainers in the field of male and female contraception, sexual and reproductive health.
* strive to liaise fully, with the international medical and nursing profession, Governments, NGOs (non-government organisations), pharmaceutical companies, condom manufacturers/distributors and other companies, the media and the public; to promote and disseminate up to date, qualified information.
* promote safest sexual and reproductive health through SEXplained…® Edutainment.
* assist Knox Publishing with the national and international promotion of SEXplained…® Books.

General Information About 

Knox Publishing & SEXplained... Ltd

Helen Knox, founder and Managing Director of SEXplained…® Ltd., trained at the Westminster Hospital, London, before working St Thomas’ Hospital A&E Dept, London and later as a District Nursing Sister in west London.

For over a decade, she has worked in the field of contraception and sexual health. She's the UK’s first full-time Outreach Clinical Nurse Specialist in Contraception and Sexual Health working in deprived, multi-ethnic, inner city areas of south London since 1991.

Helen was prompted by the lack of easily available, quality information about contraception and sexual health. 

After being turned down by a publisher - and deciding no-one else was going to tell her that a third party could influence their decision by saying her idea wouldn't sell (against a backdrop of goverment supported organisations working in the field, producing free literature for the public) Helen took a loan from the bank and started Knox Publishing as a sole trader in 1995. She self-published and promoted SEXplained… The Uncensored Guide to Sexual Health and in 1999 published its sequel, SEXplained 2… For Young People. The launch of which was supported by Schering Health Care Ltd and Condomania (UK) Ltd on 30th April, at The Z Bar & Brasserie in Brixton, south London, to an audience of health care professionals, press and the public. 

In September 1999, SEXplained… Ltd was formed. SEXplained... is the registered trade mark of Helen Knox / Knox Publishing.

Since 1995:

Financial support has been received from Condomania (UK) Ltd and SSL/Durex has supported PR through their regular publication Barrier Protection Digest.

Schering Health Care Ltd supported publication, with bulk purchase in 1995, and their support continues.

Penny Hopkinson of Manual Writers International has given ongoing advice and guidance on press releases and all aspects of marketing.

Numerous favourable book reviews have been received from professional and general publications since 1995. SEXplained…® Books are available, to order, from any bookshop internationally.

Many TV and radio interviews have been given to promote SEXplained…® Books and raise Helen’s profile as the UK’s first Outreach Clinical Nurse Specialist in Contraception and Sexual Health.

Publicity has also been received from the UK’s leading Black comedy duo, Robbie Gee and Eddie Nestor of GeeStor Productions Ltd.

In 2000, SEXplained... Ltd introduced SEXplained... Training for Trainers & Influencers to widen education related to contraception and sexual health related material as far as possible. On leaving her Outreach post in south London in May 2001, to concentrate on developing SEXplained... Ltd, Helen has also introduced SEXplained... Teaching.
