First trip to Barbados
- September 1999
To quote these two wardens
and 'Reggie' on a south coast beach
"We need
these books here in Barbados - when and how can we get them?"

On this
first trip.
This trip was meant to be a holiday - but Helen just wondered if
there might be interest here for her books - since the Caribbean HIV
statistics were already escalating and the rest of the world seemed
to be concentrating on South Africa - and being Helen, she decided to
see if she could muster interest from within the second most prevalent
region instead.
Through the help and support of
Business Link London, Helen was introduced to
Mr Hadford Howell, MBE, JP, at the British High Commission, Commercial
Section, Bridgetown,
who made every effort to help her foster good relations with local people
already involved with sexual health promotion in order not to offend
anyone as a visitor to the island. He arranged seven meetings for her
in just a few moments on the phone. Amazing.
Among those she met, Helen was introduced to Mr Barton Green, the then
President of Barbados Family Planning Association warmly opened the
doors of assistance and offered to help her in any way he, and BFPA
could, throughout the Caribbean, via their strength as an affiliate
to IPPF (International Planned Parenthood Federation).
A link was established and so began the story of SEXplained... in the
